Educational Objectives

Trav-L-World Travel College is an educational training center specializing in general computer software understanding. Upon completion students will understand the functions of the following computer software programs.
  • Microsoft Word 2000
  • Microsoft Excel 2000
  • Microsoft Access 2000 
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

Course Outline

  
Week 1 (20 hours) Introduction to Office 2000/Word 2000
Office 2000 provides speed and efficiency using the many features of this office suite. Introduction to the different programs and how they interact within the Office 2000 suite. Introduction to Word 2000 teaches how to open a new document as well as how to save, preview and print a document.
Week 2 (20 hours) Microsoft Word 2000 Part 2
Unit 2 teaches the student basic editing features, such as cut, copy and paste. Also basic formatting is discussed, as well as changing the print type. How to change the layout of the page is also examined.
Week 3 (20 hours) Microsoft Word 2000 Part 3
Automatic functions are explained as well as the Spell check and Grammar check. The last part of the unit deals with desktop publishing. Inserting WordArt is also examined.
Week 4 (20 hours) Microsoft Word 2000 Part 4
Part 4 deals with desktop publishing. Working with Columns; special formatting; working with graphics and inserting WordArt is also examined.
Week 5 (20 hours) Microsoft Word 2000 Part 5
Putting it all together working with existing document and how to switch between document, copying, pasting, and reformatting. How to insert page breaks, headers and footers as well as outlining is discussed. Putting it all together
Week 6 (20 hours) Microsoft Word Job Simulation
Student works on projects that relate to all lessons of Word 2000
Week 7 (20 hours) Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2000
Introduction to spreadsheets by describing all the parts of Excel. Students learn how to enter, data, as well as save and print the worksheet. Changing the appearance of the worksheet is also examined.
Week 8 (20 hours) Microsoft Excel 2000 Part 2
This unit address copying and moving around in the worksheet. Also inserting and delete specific items. This lesson also shows the student the powerful computing power of Excel by using formulas.
Week 9 (20 hours) Microsoft Excel 2000 Part 3
Statistical and financial functions are examined by example as well as other calculation formats. Inserting other worksheets is also explained.
Week 10 (20 hours) Microsoft Excel 2000 Part 4
This unit instructs students how to work with other software tools such as word processors and the Internet browser. How to create charts from existing document is also taught. How to work with Chart Wizard is examined.
Week 11 (20 hours)         Microsoft Excel Job Simulation
Student works on projects that relate to all lessons of Excel 2000
Week 12 (20 hours)  Introduction to Microsoft Access 2000
The basic of database management is examined in this Unit creation, and entering information is examined. How to edit records, select records, and change the layout of a database is also discussed.
Week 13 (20 hours) Microsoft Access Part 2
How to create and modify forms, as well as how to repair a database is examined. The student will also learn how to search for data as well as how to use commands such as Find and Sort.
Week 14 (20 hours)                         Microsoft Access Part 3
This unit will give the student an understanding of what makes up a report and how macros can be used. The student will also be introduced to how Access works with the other office programs such as Excel spreadsheets and letter created in Word
Week 15 (20 hours) Microsoft Access Job Simulation
Student works on projects that relate to all lessons of Access 2000
Week 16 (20 hours) Microsoft Outlook
Outlook is the application that works closest with the Internet. How to send E Mail; how to organize the user with calendar and task list; How to create a contact list and keep an address book
Week 17 (20 hours) Career Development
Getting a job is why this course was designed and this unit gives student employment guidance in interview techniques, application forms, resume preparation, and the approach to getting the job and keeping it.
